Your best weekend ever! (Fitness-wise)
Ok. I'm going to put together a fabulous plan for a fabulous and fit weekend (can you tell I'm excited it's Friday?)
1. First off, go to the pool. And don't worry - I'm not going to have you swimming laps! I found this great pool workout on Self.com that's no laps, and not old-lady water aerobics. Go swimming with a friend or spouse and have a great time just playing around and cooling off. And then, at some point, do this workout. It looks like a lot of fun, and seems to be pretty challenging, but on the same hand it doesn't seem like you'd attract too much attention if you're at a public pool. Have fun! Print out the entire workout here.
2. Go to a fast-food joint. Yep, you heard me right. You played at the pool with a pal, not go to a fast food restaurant and eat up. Not sure what to order? Well, use Shape.com's "Grab and Go" feature that shows you what to order. Love Chic-Fil-a? Try one of these under 400 calories options. (they also have McD's, DQ, Chilis, Burger King, Wendy's and more!)
3. Take a new exercise class. If you belong to a gym, find the exercise schedules for the weekend and pick a new class to attend. It will be easier to get up and go because it will be something new and exciting (not old and boring). If you want, take a friend and then after the class go shopping. SUMMER SALES! Yay. Never tried pilates? Do it this weekend. Wondering about spin? Take it and find out. You may find something that you love doing.
4. Go to the park. If you have a child, niece/nephew, young sibling, or a friend's kid take them to a park. Go prepared. Bring a frisbee, a soccer ball, and some other fun equipment. Go out there an just play till the kid falls down. It will be a great cardio workout. It's raining outside? Turn on some good ole' clean pop music (think N'Sync) and dance the day away with your kids. Be silly, make a train, play follow the leader.
5. Pretend you're doing a triathlon. Don't be intimidated by the title. Most likely, somewhere in the world, on Saturday morning at 8 a.m. people will jump into open water swim a mile, hop on a bike pedal foro 25 miles and then do a 6 mile run. Phew. That's a lot of work. You can get in on that action, but in a much easier way. Fitsugar has a great tri-workout you can do at the gym. Put on a swimsuit, and swim for 15 minutes, hop on a cardio bike and pedal for 15 minutes, then finish up with a 15 minute run on a treadmill. It's a great way to find out if doing triathlons are something that could be fun for you.
6. Relax and chill. Now that you've had a lot of fun being active and health-concious, sit back and relax. Watch a movie or sit on the patio.
Have a great weekend!
