Self kicked my butt
I've been a subscriber to Self Magazine for about two or so years now. And this summer, when it came time to renew, I decided against it. I already get enough magazines as it is, but that wasn't the main reason... I love reading Self's "style" section and their sometime interesting articles about love and health, but when it comes to fitness - well it just doesn't do it for me anymore.
The "fitness" section is comprised of two pages and one page of "tear out" cards for workouts. The only thing is, these workouts pretty much suck. No offense. It's just that they aren't challenging. They might be great for newbies, or for gals who still think that lifting more than 5 pounds will make them balloon into Hulk Hogan. And then usually there is one other "workout" which, once again, is usually nothing challenging and stresses using "home equipment"
Ok so the reason for all this is that yesterday I went to the gym and brought the recent issue of self with me (probably the first time). They had in there this Gabrielle Reece workout that looked really challenging (for once). So I decided I'd give it a try. Well, let me just say, that girl is strong! On some of the moves I could barely pump out 10 reps (less than the recommended 15) and on other moves I had to do the "less challenging" form, which I hate doing (I'm really competitive). And this morning, oh I was sore!
Here are some of my favorites...
King Complex: basically get in a push up position with hands on dumbbell, pull up one arm toward chest (like a row) and then bring it down, do a push up, pull up other hand, another pushup. Repeat 15 times... yeah!
Reverse Multiplank: looks so easy, but don't be fooled.
Upsy Daisy: This one is such a great arm workout. It gets both biceps and triceps all in one. And you feel really strong doing it.
My suggestion is to try this workout yourself. (self has videos of Gabrielle doing each move)
